Anything that previously contained hazardous materials
The Mobile County Recycling Center is unable to accept materials that are commingled. Individuals dropping off items must place their recyclables into the corresponding bins at the recycling center. Also, to avoid contamination, please rinse items that have previously contained foodstuff or liquid, uncap bottles/jars, and remove items from any bags before placing them in the bins.
PET (or PETE)
Most often called PET, #1 bottles are made of polyethylene terephthalate. This plastic is most commonly used for water and soda bottles, peanut butter and other food jars, and such. PET plastic includes almost all clear/transparent bottles, jars, and jugs.
High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)
HDPE is used for thin containers such as milk jugs, detergent bottles, shampoo/conditioner bottles, bleach bottles, and vinegar bottles. HDPE plastic is composed of almost all opaque and solid colored bottles, jars, and jugs.
This is a commingled mix of different types of plastic household items (other than most bottles or jars). This group includes food packaging, storage tubs, yogurt containers, plastic cups, and cutlery. Rigid plastic (such as that found in furniture, equipment, and computers) can’t be accepted.
Plastic bags include grocery bags, shopping bags, food packaging and black trash bags.
(corrugated)
(newspapers, cereal boxes, magazines, junk mail, etc.)
Computers (flat screen TVs/monitors, computers, printers, scanners, etc.), electronics (radios, Christmas lights, small appliances, etc.), as well as general household donations to Goodwill Gulf Coast are collected in bins located inside the warehouse. To access these bins, enter through the roll-up door at the far end of the building. The bins will be on the left side of the entryway.
